The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that it has not requested any meeting with the United States to resume negotiations that were interrupted by the 12-day war, in which Israel and American forces attacked the Persian country's nuclear facilities.
“No request for a meeting has been submitted to the American side on our part,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei. The statement comes after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that new talks have been scheduled between his Government and that of Iran.
“We have scheduled talks with Iran. They want to talk. I think they took a beating when we attacked all three sites,” Trump said from the White House.
Since April 12, Iran and the United States have held five rounds of indirect negotiations, sponsored by Oman and held between Muscat and Rome, to negotiate an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
The meetings took place amid strong differences between Washington's demands for the complete closure of the Iranian nuclear program and Tehran's demand to continue its civilian nuclear program, and with the constant threat of Israel finally launching an attack against Iran in the early morning of June 13.
