The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Esmail Baqai, rejected on Tuesday the “interferentist and unfounded” accusations raised in a joint statement issued yesterday at the 29th Ministerial and Joint Council Meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC, formed by Arab countries of the Persian Gulf) and the European Union (EU) in Kuwai.
At the meeting where the parties reiterated the sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the three strategic islands of the Persian Gulf and accused Iran of “occupying them,” Hispantv said.
Baqai described Iran's sovereignty over the Iranian islands of Greater Tonb, Lesser Tonb and Bu Musa as “indisputable and perpetual” as an inseparable part of the Iranian national territory, and emphasized that “the repetition of unfounded statements in political statements has no legal value and does not alter either geographical reality or historical facts”.
In this regard, the spokesperson recommended to the coastal neighbors of the Persian Gulf that instead of repeating “stereotypical statements against the territorial integrity of Iran and facilitating destructive interventions by third parties”, they focus on strengthening mutual trust and expanding friendship between countries in the region, as well as on confronting “the greatest threat to regional peace and stability, that is, the Zionist regime”.
