  • Ali José Hernández, 20, was killed with machine gun bursts inside a cell of the General Directorate of Police (Digepol), in the city of Valencia, edo. Carabobo, while I was sleeping.
  • This was the third prisoner killed inside prisons during the Government of Rómulo Betancourt.
  • Hernández, as the graphic shows, had his arm and chest plastered, which prevented his mobility, let alone any attempt to escape or attack his jailers while he was sleeping.
  • According to the official version, he tried to escape when he was shot. ****He had been arrested with five teammates while driving around the Olympic Village in Valencia.
  • This police report was denied by El Nacional on 9/9/1963. The newspaper disbanded the alleged link between the young man who was shot and the death of a Digepol official, Juan Michelena, who was injured in a shootout in the immediate vicinity of the scene.
  • The application of the death penalty to detainees in prisons and police cells was also practiced with:
  • José Gregorio Rodríguez, launched from a sixth floor of Digepol in Caracas.
  • José Antonio Vázquez La Torre, hanged inside a cell in the Prefecture of El Hatillo.
  • José Nicasio Betancourt Piña assassinated at the regional headquarters of Digepol in Coro, edo. Falcon.
  • Fabricio Ojeda, murdered in a cell of the Armed Forces Intelligence Service (SIFA), in the White Palace, located a few meters from the Miraflores Palace.
  • In August of the same year, four peasants were shot and two disappeared, in the hamlet of El Guache, Sanare, edo. Lara. The execution was carried out by members of the anti-guerrilla command of El Tocuyo.
