The international medical and humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported that 25 percent of children (between 6 months and 5 years old) and pregnant women who treated last week in the Gaza Strip suffered from malnutrition.
In this regard, MSF denounced “deliberate hunger”, while stating that it cannot be normalized and that food must enter Gaza on a large scale.
The project coordinator of the MSF clinic in the Gaza Strip, Caroline Willemen, said that the organization treats 25 new patients with acute malnutrition on a daily basis, and that even medical staff are beginning to show signs of exhaustion, international press reported.
The situation is especially serious in northern Gaza, where since May 18, the number of people being treated for malnutrition has quadrupled. Cases of severe malnutrition in children under five years of age have tripled in the last two weeks alone.
