Japan confirmed sending emergency humanitarian assistance to Venezuela after the double earthquake that occurred last week, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi reported during a statement to the press.
The foreign minister explained that the aid was sent to the Venezuelan Government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in response to the damages reported by the authorities and the needs identified in the first evaluations, Sputnik reported.
The shipment includes plastic canvases, drums and equipment intended for water purification, while a JICA technical delegation has been in Venezuela since June 26 to determine priority requirements for medical care and reconstruction.
The two earthquakes, with a magnitude of 7.2 and 7.5, occurred 39 seconds apart in the north of the country and left more than 1,700 dead and more than 5,000 injured, numbers that could increase as work progresses to search for and remove debris in areas with collapsed or severely affected buildings.
