This Saturday, July 18, the President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, extended her deepest thanks to the rescuers and volunteers of the various State agencies who worked hard to search for and save lives after the earthquakes of last June 24.

“This was a moment that I looked forward to personally thanking all of you. We have demonstrated extraordinary strength and I have no doubt that your actions saved lives,” he said during the Heroes of Venezuela Award Ceremony in La Guaira.

Rodríguez recalled that, a few hours after the double earthquake, the Bolivarian Government activated a General Staff to coordinate rescue and emergency care operations.

“We didn't faint, we went on and on. I know that there were places where some international brigades said that you couldn't continue; that's where you stayed, you persevered for the life of a Venezuelan, a Venezuelan woman, a human being,” he said.

He also assured that the performance of the security agencies represented an example of professionalism and commitment. “Today I sincerely tell them that their uniforms are more honorable, that their uniforms have a lot of dignity, because the tasks carried out by 30,000 officials to deal with the seismic catastrophe were up to the occasion,” he said.

In addition, he recognized the canine binomials that participated in the search through the rubble, highlighting the work of Luna, who located 80 people, as well as that of the dog Tsunami, whom he described as “a national hero” for his participation in the rescue of survivors.

He reaffirmed that the response deployed during the emergency demonstrated the organizational capacity and commitment of the Venezuelan security forces. “The joy of those who find life to recover and save it is the greatest recognition of the effort you made for the Venezuelan people,” he said.
