The head of National Dialogue, Jorge Rodríguez, reported that the Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele, tried to stop the return of two planes carrying 252 Venezuelans as part of negotiations with the United States.
Rodríguez indicated that, after the suspension of the talks on Wednesday, the dialogue resumed on Thursday morning and lasted until Friday, when an agreement was reached for the return of migrants.
“While the seven children were arriving on the plane, we were in another hangar coordinating with the Americans the simultaneous departure of the plane carrying our citizens and the American citizens detained in Venezuela,” he said.
During the operation, Rodríguez said, Bukele ordered vehicles to block the runway and prevented the engines from starting for more than 40 minutes, jeopardizing diplomatic operations. “It was a cruel and despicable act that almost destroyed the mission,” he said.
