The frequency and magnitude of aftershocks have decreased in the last 48 hours, said Jorge Rodríguez, the president of the General Staff for the Creation of Transitional Camps, during the assessment of the contingency operation after the earthquake.

“The reality is that the number of aftershocks has decreased and the average magnitude of each of them has also decreased,” he said.

Rodríguez explained that, since the two earthquakes of June 24, 689 aftershocks have been recorded. He indicated that 86 were counted on the 28th and on the 29th, 30, confirming a sustained reduction. He clarified that this trend does not completely eliminate the risk of new events. “When the threat completely disappears, we will report it immediately,” he said.

The official spokesman explained that there are six days of emergency, with national and international solidarity teams active in search, rescue and care efforts. He indicated that the president of the General Staff, Delcy Rodríguez, is leading the operational deployment.

During the early morning, a two-year-old boy was rescued alive, currently being treated at a health center in the capital. Rodríguez pointed out that the brigades are still searching for people under the rubble and that each operation requires long days to open safe space in collapsed structures.

The General Staff presented a preliminary analysis of the rescue work on collapsed or severely damaged buildings in La Guaira, where the greatest structural damage is concentrated. Work continues on evaluation, controlled removal of debris and identification of risk areas for the installation of temporary camps.

Rodríguez reiterated that the operation remains active in all critical areas and that the reports will be updated as seismic risk reduction and search efforts progress.
