The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, highlighted this Wednesday the consolidation of participatory and leading democracy through the election of Community Judges and Justices of the Peace on December 15.

Venezuela has been the victim of the worst attacks a country on this continent has ever known (...) with the imposition of rude sanctions, with the imposition of a blockade, with a constant onslaught of international media campaign against Venezuela and we have nothing other than the facts to demonstrate force, to demonstrate the seriousness of when Commander Chávez adjectivated our democracy as a participatory and leading democracy,” he said.

During a press conference of the Electoral Commission of Justices of the Peace, the head of Parliament indicated that these are not “speeches or phrases, it was Commander Chávez's real intention to replace that other form of democracy of those deputies who were elected by lists and by companies and newspapers (...) to this new democracy that we are building day by day”.

Rodríguez pointed out that there is no country in the world where you can choose between 52,000 candidates “for something as important as the harmonization of justice in the neighborhood, in the community, in the commune, in the residential area. It's community justice, street justice, and neighborhood justice.”

He urged us to see the Commune and the Communal Council “as a deeper and truer form of democracy”, so President Nicolás Maduro “has stated that up to 70% of the nation's budget, which will be approved tomorrow in the National Assembly, corresponds to the People's Power.”
