During her participation in the program Sin Truco, Ni Maña, journalist Karen Méndez warned that the U.S. policy of aggression against Venezuela constitutes a direct violation of the United Nations Charter by committing the international crime of threat.
“The presence of armed ships near the country is not a simple dissuasive maneuver; it's as if armed men are placed in front of your house who tell you 'well, I'm not doing anything to you and the guys are getting closer to your house'. That is a threat, and in international law, only the threat is already a crime,” said Méndez, denouncing that these actions seek to emotionally destabilize the people.
The journalist emphasized that Washington's speech seeks to justify aggression under the pretext of combating an alleged drug trafficking leadership, irresponsibly pointing to President Nicolás Maduro. However, Méndez described this narrative as false and dangerous, comparing it to media coverage of the Aragua Train case, in which innocent Venezuelans were persecuted and imprisoned in US detention centers.
“More than 200 Venezuelans were taken to Guantánamo and then to El Salvador, in an operation that was publicly requested by a leader of the extreme right (María Corina Machado),” he reported.
Méndez warned that the United States uses emotional discourse to destabilize the peoples of the region.
“They are very cunning (...) it's an emotional manipulation that seeks to weaken people's critical consciousness,” he concluded.
