Leonela Vera breaks continental record on the second day of parathletics

The Venezuelan parathletics delegation closed the second day with 14 medals and brought the cumulative total in the discipline to 27, leaving six gold, seven silver and one bronze medal, the Ministry of Sports reported.

Leonela Vera led the day by winning the 400 meters T20 with a time of 54.79 seconds and, in addition, she set a new continental record by surpassing the 55.12 mark held by the American Breanna Clark and, after the test, she stated that at the start of the race she felt focused on achieving her goal for Venezuela and that when she saw the goal she confirmed that the gold was hers.

In the men's division, Enderson Santos triumphed in the 400 meters T11 with 53.87 seconds and Kennedy Mendoza came first in the F45-F46 javelin with a record of 47.33 meters and, in speed, Lisbely Vera won the 400 meters T45/T47 with 58.10 seconds while Luis López did the same in the 400 meters T47 with 48.98 seconds.

In the launches, Romy Rodríguez dominated the F44 disc with 33.96 meters and, in the silver harvest, Abraham Ortega stood out in the F45-F46 javelin with 43.82 meters, Angeluz Boyero in the 400 meters T37-T38 with 1:06.09 and Henry Véliz in the F55-F57 javelin with 39.77 meters, in addition to the performances of Luis Felipe Rodríguez, Sol Rojas, Yomaira Cohen and Alejandra Pérez, who pointed out that each race is analyzed to correct flaws and continue to improve.

The only bronze medal went to Rafael Uribe in the T44 long jump with 5.55 meters and, with these results, Venezuela is in fourth place in the medal table with 16 golds, 23 silvers and 14 bronzes, behind Brazil, Colombia and Argentina.

The delegation faces the third day this Tuesday with bullet impulse, long jump, speed and disc tests, in which Wendy Mejías, Luis López, Neptaly Jugo, Linda Pérez, Sol Rojas, Franyelis Vargas, Paola García, Lisbely Vera, Roreidis Salina, Alejandra Pérez, Edwars Valera, Anabel Polanco, Yescarly Medina, Naibys Morillo, Patricia Rodríguez and Juan Valladares will compete.
