The Maldives and Pakistan support the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian mission of solidarity with the Palestinians heading to Gaza. In a statement, these two South Asian countries and Bangladesh demand that the security of the Sumud Global Flotilla, a civil society initiative that seeks to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, be guaranteed.

The demand, also signed by the foreign ministries of Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, South Africa, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, Qatar, Libya, Oman, Slovenia, Spain and Türkiye, comes in response to the threats and attacks that the flotilla has suffered by Israel.

The signatory countries confirmed their support for the international civilian mission in solidarity with the Palestinian people. In addition, they called for respect for international law and international humanitarian law, recalling that any violation of these rights, such as attacks on ships or illegal detentions, will entail accountability.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which sailed on August 31 from Barcelona, has as its main objective to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and to raise awareness of the urgent needs of the Palestinian population, as well as the need to stop Israeli aggression in the region, as indicated in the statement.

Despite the significant risks faced by the flotilla, including drone attacks while in Tunisia and direct threats from Israeli officials, the organizers have expressed their firm determination to continue with the mission.

The governments that signed the communiqué emphasized that peace, the delivery of humanitarian aid and respect for international law are shared objectives. The initiative seeks to alleviate the difficult situation faced by the population of Gaza and to promote a peaceful solution to the conflict.
