The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez,
announced that 92% of the resources of the Participatory Budget of the Libertador
municipality will be allocated to social investment.
“We are guaranteeing our people
all services, (...) social assistance, (...) health, education, culture,
sports, recreation, as are the lines of our president Nicolás Maduro,”
he said after presenting the Participatory Budget 2026 to the Municipal Council for approval.
He stressed that community projects that are
not selected as priorities in popular consultations will
also have financial support. “The projects that come
second in the 299 communes of Caracas already have their budget
guaranteed,” he said.
The mayor indicated that this methodology
will be repeated in 2026, so that the 1,162 projects that
rank second in the current cycle will also receive resources. “It is our people who
decide what their priorities are in the territory,” he stressed.
