A group of Venezuelan scientists deployed to the San Isidro de Apartaderos area, located in the state of Mérida, to carry out an evaluation of housing and infrastructure affected by the heavy rainfall recorded in recent weeks in the state.
This was reported by the Sectorial Vice President of Science, Technology, Ecosocialism and Health, Gabriela Jiménez, who indicated that these actions respond to the guidelines given by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, within the framework of the Great Mother Earth Venezuela Mission.
The Minister for Science and Technology also stressed that during the visit there was “an open dialogue with the community where we explained the importance of understanding the characteristics of these natural phenomena: how rains, geology and slopes interact in our fragile mountain ecosystem”.
In the same way, according to a press release, he indicated that the meeting discussed the early warning system and its “implementation as a vital shield to protect lives and property” and reiterated that “the organized force of neighbors is our first line of defense.”
The minister highlighted the strength of the Andean people and reiterated the commitment of the Bolivarian Government to rescue areas affected by heavy rainfall.
Recently, the Merideño Páramo Axis was visited by specialists in geosciences, engineering and geography, including Janh Franklin Leal, Francisco Bongiorno, Rafael Arocha, Nerio Ramírez, Yusely Hernández and Luiscar Molina, who carried out a technical inspection to evaluate the impacts of the hydrogeomorphological event of June 24, 2025, which seriously affected the Chama, Motatán and Santo Domingo river basins.
