The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) of the Government of Mexico confirmed the death of a Mexican agricultural worker, identified as Jaime Alanis García, 56, who was seriously injured after a raid by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on a farm in Southern California.

According to reports, Alanis Garcia died at the Ventura County Medical Center after suffering a fall of more than nine meters from the roof of a greenhouse while trying to flee from immigration agents during the federal operation who caused serious injuries, including fractures to the skull and neck, and the rupture of an artery that supplies blood to the brain, so he was declared brain dead.

The raid, cited by the Venezolana Television portal, was one of at least two large scale operations in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties that day. Videos released on social networks showed dozens of workers running through the plantation and climbing to the roof to avoid arrest.

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its sincerest condolences to the relatives of the deceased compatriot and reported that the Consulate of Mexico in Oxnard provided timely and continuous consular care to the family, both in the United States and in Mexico.

Jaime Alanis García was a farm worker and had a wife and daughter who resided in Mexico and were dependent on him. His family members set up a GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses.

These raids, carried out by agencies such as ICE, have direct consequences on the lives of thousands of people, many of them with years of residence in the country, strong family ties and no criminal record. The sudden arrest and deportation of individuals generates fear and uncertainty in entire communities, especially affecting children, workers and students.
