This Thursday, in statements to the media, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, questioned the administrative sanctions imposed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury on three financial institutions CiBanco, Intercam and Vecto for alleged links to money laundering and drug trafficking networks.

“There is no evidence, only sayings,” said Sheinbaum during his morning conference, referring to allegations from the Treasury, which accuses, without evidence, these entities of facilitating suspicious transfers linked to fentanyl trafficking from the People's Republic of China.

Sheinbaum revealed that, although Mexico received confidential information from U.S. authorities weeks ago, the data were “general” and lacked specific support.

The head of state stressed that her government has formally requested more details from the Treasury, through the Ministry of Finance and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). “If there is strong evidence, we will act. There is no impunity,” he said, but warned: “Mexico is not subordinate to anyone. We are a sovereign country. The relationship with the United States is one of the same.”
