Military engineers receive technical training to evaluate infrastructures affected by earthquakes

More than 30 professionals from the Corps of Engineers of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) completed a day of technical instruction in the Integral Defense Operational Zone (ZODI) of La Guaira.

The activity aims to optimize inspection and diagnostic processes in civil and military structures compromised after the earthquake that occurred on June 24.

The induction, carried out under the coordination of the Presidential Commission for Infrastructure Evaluation, was led by Víctor Cano, technical director of the Institute of Engineering Foundation for Research and Technological Development (FIIIDT). During the session, military personnel incorporated the standardized rapid assessment methodology known as the “traffic light technique”, a structural screening system that catalogues buildings using green, yellow and red labels according to the level of risk detected.
The contingency plan contemplates the progressive revision of approximately 10,000 buildings distributed throughout the national territory.

The joint technical teams will unify engineering criteria to determine the habitability of homes, identify the types of faults generated by the accident and establish direct communication channels with communities during field deployments.
