Military personnel intervene in prisons in Ecuador

Through a message posted on the social network X, the head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces of Ecuador, Jaime Vela, announced that a dozen prisons in the South American country have been seized by the military.
“10 centers of deprivation of liberty have already been intervened; we have not had any problems of violence for the intervention,” he said.
In this regard, he specified that the interventions are aimed at obtaining weapons, ammunition, explosives, and substances subject to control.
“The Armed Forces are maintaining the operational pace and we are continuing to carry out interventions in prisons,” he emphasized.
In addition, he explained that 178 hostages were released, including prison guides and administrative staff, from several prisons in the Ecuadorian nation.
According to what was published on the Sputnik website, thousands of soldiers and police officers intervened in several prisons in Ecuador, after a week of incidents and detentions of more than a hundred officials, in the midst of an unprecedented spiral of violence in the Andean country.
