The Ministry of Popular Power for Culture, together with leading figures in the artistic and cultural field, paid an emotional tribute to the teacher Asdrúbal Meléndez, who in his more than 60 years of experience gave his invaluable contributions to the nation's cultural heritage.

During the event, Minister Ernesto Villegas highlighted Meléndez 's productive work in film, theater, literature, painting and television. “Here we were left owing him to respond to a lot of projects, because he was an optimist of creation, a restless of creation. We weren't quiet, we weren't satisfied,” he said.

He also recalled the artistic versatility of Asdrúbal Meléndez. “If I made sculpture, I was about to paint and if not, to declare and at the same time act and conceive an installation; I was a higher intelligence,” he said.

In addition, he stressed that one of the great strengths of the Venezuelan master was “Not to be pigeonholed into any of the frontiers of art. It was a relentless creative energy.”

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Audiovisual Culture, Sergio Arria, described Asdrúbal Meléndez as a representative of the Peripatetic School of Aristotle, always moved “by the diversity of the human being and by its mysteries”. At the same time, he recalled his role as “poet, actor, scenographer, schoolteacher, which is perhaps one of his professions that we most demand as a sign of his infinite humility”.

Villegas also highlighted that the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, awarded the Liberators and Liberators ( post-morten) award to the actor, painter, sculptor and poet, Asdrubal Meléndez, and was recognized as a heritage bearer of Venezuelan culture.
