The Minister of Popular Power for Sports, Franklin Cardillo, this Thursday, March 19, assured that the organization of the Caribbean Series made a big mistake in taking the venue of this event from Venezuela and moving it to Mexico, an action that, in his opinion, weakened the structure of the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation.

“They realized that that decision didn't benefit anyone at all,” he said.

In the program A Pulso, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, he emphasized that Venezuela has demonstrated excellent technical and logistical capacity in the execution of major international events and noted that the nation may participate in this tournament.

Cardillo said that from the Venezuelan Baseball Federation (FVB), a proposal has been submitted for Venezuela to host the next World Baseball Classic, consolidating the country as a high-level sports epicenter.

On the other hand, he reported that all the players of the National Team, Champions of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, expressed their intention to return to Venezuela to share this historic triumph with the people.

He explained that players are part of the United States Professional Baseball League and, due to their contractual commitments, must immediately join spring training with their respective teams.

In that regard, he regretted that the organizations did not grant the corresponding permission, which prevents his return to Venezuela.

Cardillo also reported that the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, held talks with the players of the National Baseball Team.

In this context, he stressed that Captain Salvador Pérez conveyed his greetings and affection, regretting that he could not travel to the country due to professional commitments.

For that reason, he commented that as a symbolic gesture, he sent the president in charge of the Champions Cup, a t-shirt signed by all the players and the official ball of the tournament, symbols of the pride and victory achieved by Venezuela in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

The minister announced that on the Paseo de las Estrellas, which will be created in the Plaza de la Juventud, in Caracas, the names of all the players of the Venezuelan champion team in the 2026 World Baseball Classic will be registered.

He also pointed out that while a specialized team is working on the design of the route that this ride will take, together with the Venezuelan Baseball Federation (FVB), the incorporation of technical staff and other athletes with great achievements is being evaluated.
