This Thursday, March 26, the III National Maize and Rice Expo-Congress was inaugurated in Barquisimeto, Lara state, an event that brings together the business, commercial and productive sector from all regions of the country in these cereal sectors.
The Minister of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Julio León Heredia, who accompanied the activity together with the governor of the entity, Luis Reyes Reyes, highlighted the importance of synergy between the different public and private actors in the agro-industrial chain, in addition to stressing that this meeting is the ideal setting for materializing concrete solutions for the field.
“It is gratifying to see how the articulation between the public and private sectors is strengthened with a common objective: to ensure that no Venezuelan family lacks food on their table,” he said.
Regarding corn production in the country, he stressed that “this is an open window with business opportunities for producers and to be able to reach the 700,000 hectares of white and yellow corn production required by the country, of which so far we have an estimated production of 400,000”.
The Expo-Congress is, in addition to a commercial showcase, a high-level space for the exchange of knowledge, in which experts, producers and scientists share the latest trends that transform the reality of the Venezuelan countryside, focused on three fundamental pillars:
Genetics and biotechnology: Development of seeds and crops that are more resistant to weather conditions and pests.
Precision agronomic management: Use of technological tools to optimize resource use and maximize yields.
Sustainability: Implementing environmentally friendly practices to ensure the future of productive lands.
The event, which will take place until the 28th of this month, reaffirms that Venezuela is moving towards a cutting-edge agricultural model, where technical innovation translates into sovereignty.
The massive participation of the private sector in this III Expo-Congress demonstrates confidence in policies to stimulate domestic production, to project corn and rice as fundamental engines of economic growth by the end of 2026.
