The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, denounced that the United States uses drug trafficking to justify the deployment of ships, troops and a nuclear submarine in waters close to Venezuela, despite the fact that 87% of the illegal substances consumed by the U.S. market transit through the Pacific.

During his speech at the United Cultures Forum in St. Petersburg, Villegas warned that this American pattern reflects a historic strategy of launching baseless accusations against sovereign nations to legitimize armed intervention.

He recalled the case of Iraq in 2003, when Colin Powell presented false evidence to the United Nations (UN) of the presence of chemical weapons, which triggered a war that left one million dead.

He emphasized that the right to culture is restricted by unilateral coercive measures, which he described as a systematic offensive against the Venezuelan people. In this context, he highlighted the creation of the Great Viva Venezuela Mission, an initiative promoted by President Nicolás Maduro to promote national cultural flow and promote exchange with other international expressions.

Villegas expressed concern about the revival of fascist currents and other forms of intolerance that, in his opinion, threaten coexistence, plurality and fundamental rights. He emphasized that Venezuela, characterized by a mixture of roots and traditions, faces external threats that seek to undermine its sovereignty.

The forum, organized by the Russian Ministry of Culture, brought together representatives from 21 countries on a day dedicated to intercultural dialogue. On that occasion, Villegas reiterated that history demonstrates how some powers construct narratives to attribute their own actions to others, in order to justify aggression.
