The Ministry of Popular Power for
Culture paid a heartfelt tribute in the Plaza El Samán of the National
Library, located in Caracas, to the Venezuelan actress Dilia Waikkarán
for her 59 years of artistic life, as well as for her contributions to the performing arts in Venezuela.
According to information from Venezolana
de Televisión, the activity was accompanied by the Minister of Popular Power for
Culture, Ernesto Villegas, and a group of artists from different
disciplines who paid tribute to him.
“Everyone here loves you and it's
not free; it's the correspondence you've given to them and to them who
are Venezuela. You have dedicated a life to art, to the most sensitive, to being at the
forefront of the struggle of peoples, together with the oppressed, the helpless, the
exploited and the excluded, putting your talent at the service of the noblest ideals.
That honors Venezuela. The hearts of
Venezuelan women live in Dilia,” said Villegas.
He highlighted the importance of
paying homage to Waikkarán during his lifetime and of recognizing the work of Venezuelan
women in the artistic field. “We are fortunate to have Dilia actively involved.
We send our recognition to women who, like her, have planted a
path of art, culture, commitment, love and the Venezuelan affirmative,” she said.
For her part, the Venezuelan actress
expressed her gratitude for receiving this recognition, accompanied by her colleagues,
and claimed to be a passionate artist dedicated to the interpretation of her characters.
“I am one of those who give in and respect the
emotions of the characters I have to play. There's
nothing of mine on stage, only what they feel,” he said.
In the tribute to the actress, the play A ti Libertador a was presented, by the group Bolivarian Reflections. In addition, the artisan Rosaura Funes presented the actress with a doll called “Dilia Manuela”, in reference to her portrayal of the illustrious Manuela Sáenz. The activity was enlivened by the group Bea and Los Significantes, who performed several songs of traditional Venezuelan music and satisfied the requests of the celebrated artist.
