High school students from the Cristóbal Rojas municipality received free copies of the “25 for 25” collection, on a day aimed at encouraging reading habits and bringing young people closer to Latin American literature.
The delivery took place at the U.E. Carmen Ruiz and also benefited students from other schools in the jurisdiction, who accessed titles published by the Fund for Economic Culture of Mexico in partnership with the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture, through the National Book Center and Monte Ávila Editores Latinoamericana.
The collection includes works by authors of the Latin American boom and contemporaries, including Gabriel García Márquez, Amparo Dávila, Piedad Bonnett, Nona Fernández and Dante Liano.
During the activity, the writer José Javier Sánchez shared experiences about his training as a reader and highlighted reading as a tool for critical thinking and social sensitivity.
The day was attended by educational and cultural authorities, who highlighted the importance of this type of initiative to promote reading and invited young women to participate in the “Teresa de la Parra” National Youth Literature Competition, whose reception of manuscripts will be open until May 15.
