Nearly 800 karate clubs in the under-11, 12, 14, 17, 21 and adult categories will compete, from this Wednesday, July 30 to August 2, in the XXXIII Simon Bolivar International Cup of the discipline, an event that aims to update the ranking and the national pre-selection of different modalities.

The tournament, which will be held at the José Joaquín “Papa” Carrillo gymnasium in Parque Miranda, will feature the participation of the gold medalist of the Ayacucho 2024 Bolivarian Bicentennial Games, Alan Miquelena, and the three-time Pan-American champion, Marianth Cuervo, as well as the absolute winner of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, Freddy Valera.

The karate clubs qualified for the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games, Jesús Castro, Joaquín Sánchez, Karinne Tirado, Marena Jucosa and Sebastián Chirinos will have the opportunity to adjust their strategies and identify areas for improvement in the face of the sporting event.

For its part, the hearing impairment component will use this cup as a competitive edge against the fundamental event of the Tokyo 2025 Deaf Olympic Games, in this way, the medalists of the Pan American Deaf Games Brazil 2024, Ismael Rodríguez, Ramón García and Alexander Hernández, will see action.

In the last edition of this competition, Yorgelis Salazar, the best in the world in 2022 in 50-kg kumite, became the main protagonist after winning the gold medal in her category.
