Misión Nevado prioritizes medical care for pets rescued under rubble

The Nevado Mission activated a rigorous medical care plan to achieve the stabilization of companion animals after the rescue as they were trapped under collapsed structures.

In this regard, in a special program on Venezolana de Televisión, the institution's director of Health, Ana Parede s, explained that, in these cases, “the first thing to do is a total anamnesis. In other words, a clinical review comes first, our doctors, veterinarians, check it, ears, eyes, teeth and levels of dehydration”, this due to the severe physical wear and tear that animals suffer from prolonged confinement.

He also noted that the admission of puppies requires immediate deworming and the supply of vitamin complexes to strengthen their immune system.

As an example of this work, she highlighted the recovery of a dog rescued with her four young after spending 12 days breastfeeding; a critical case that required the use of multivitamins, immunostimulants and a hyperproteic diet to stabilize the mother.

He also explained that the clinical protocol for each dog or cat that enters Misión Nevado is unique, since it contemplates deworming and rabies vaccination according to the species, in addition to considering the age of the pet as a determining factor.

Paredes recommended that, when rescuing a motherless puppy, the best option is to supply goat milk because it is the most similar food to breast milk.
