More than 350 fishermen and women from the state of Zulia participate in the Anti-Imperialist Assembly held on Lake Maracaibo, with the purpose of ratifying their commitment to the defense of national sovereignty in the face of recent military threats from the North American empire.
Reinado Herrera, representative of the Ministry of Popular Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture in Zulia, highlighted that more than 16,000 fishermen from the coasts and rivers of Venezuela have voluntarily joined the Bolivarian Militia.
Speaking to Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Herrera asserted that the fishing guild will continue to mobilize in defense of the Homeland.
For his part, the fisherman Sigfrido Ortega recalled that 202 years ago, on July 24, 1823, the Battle of Lake Maracaibo was fought. In this regard, he said that, just as the ancestors fought for the independence of Venezuela, today fishermen reaffirm their commitment to maintaining the sovereignty of the Fatherland.
For her part, the fisherwoman María Díaz, said that the fishing sector is firmly defending its homeland. “Venezuela is not a threat, it's a country of hope, we deserve respect,” he added.
