With a massive participation of 3,893 students across the country, the first phase of the Nanotechnology Olympics 2026 began at the General Military High School of the Ezequiel Zamora Sovereign People, located in the Coche parish, in Caracas, as announced by Wendy González, general director of the Articulation of Scientific Knowledge, of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MINCYT).

“The participants were evaluated through a simple selection and development test that covered disciplines such as neuroscience, biotechnology, physics, chemistry, materials science and nanotechnology,” said González.

He also explained that this competition is divided into two categories: category A, for young people aged 15 to 17, and category B, aimed at students aged 18 to 22, mainly from the university sector.

For his part, according to a press release, the director of the Territorial Coordination Office of the Deputy Ministry for the Communalization of Science for Production, Javier Padrón, commented that the initiative responds to strategic planning by the Venezuelan State and that they are part of the policies of the Great Mission Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán. “Specifically, in vertex one, referring to the planting and preservation of national scientific talent, making up the National Scientific Seed Program,” he added.

He highlighted that in Caracas 67 young people presented the test corresponding to the state phase. “This phase is just the beginning of a platform that will take qualified young people to the regional and national stages,” Padrón said.

He said that the ultimate objective is to prepare the national delegation for the International Nanotechnology Olympics, where it is expected that Venezuelan talent will continue to position itself successfully on the global scientific scene.
