Venezuelan José Fernández made a
dream debut in Major League Baseball (MLB) after hitting a pair of home runs
that were essential for the Arizona Diamondbacks to come back and
achieve a 7-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Chase Field.
The first hit was in the fourth chapter
when he took it out at 104.2 mph in left field against right Casey Mize, rising 408 feet, this being
the first line for Arizona, which at that time was down on the scoreboard.
The Venezuelan came out again in the eighth episode, this time against
the pitcher Kenley Jansen. With two teammates in
circulation, he turned the score around and sentenced his club to victory.
Fernández went 4-3, with 2 home runs,
four RBIs and a pair of scored runs, and was also recognized as the Best Player of the Match.
The Cumaná native, barely 22 years old, became just the eighth player to send a pair of home runs in his first match in the Big Tent, according to Sarah Langs, an analyst at MLB.com. He is also the first Venezuelan to do so.
