The National Assembly (AN) published this Friday, March 27, the final lists of the new candidates for the positions of Attorney General of the Republic and Ombudsman, after having granted a 48-hour extension to the Committee for the Evaluation of Applications of the Citizen Power.

The extension, approved this Monday, March 24 and effective until Thursday, March 26, made it possible to evaluate the credentials submitted and admit new aspirations that emerged within the stipulated deadline.

These names are added to the 61 candidates to the Ombudsman's Office (60 after the resignation of former minister Ernesto Villegas) and the 73 to the Public Prosecutor's Office that the Committee for the Evaluation of Citizens' Power Applications had already received before the extension approved at the end of last week.

For the position of Attorney General, the new nominations of Joel Altuve Patiño, Luis Betancourt Zurita and Robinson Zapata Taborda were registered.

The Ombudsman's list includes the new nominations: Luis Daniel Álvarez Venegas, Marialbert Juliana Barrios Slother, Fernando Javier Bello Salas, Jelitza Coromoto Bravo Rojas, Luis Costantini Pineda, Eglee Amerilys González Lobato, Carlos José Granadillo Sierra, Javier Alejandro Herrera Montiel, Juan Carlos Laya Peñaranda. Moisés Alejandro Martínez Fuenmayor, Gabriel Emilio Pérez Ramírez, Robinson Zapata Taborda, Doriani del Valle Rodríguez Herrera, Aleida Rosa Rojas, José Gregorio de los Ángeles Silva Bocaney, Mario Vegas Rodríguez and Hely Vladimir Villegas Poljak.

The president of the Legislative Branch, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez, explained that the extension “is granted to evaluate the credentials already submitted and to incorporate new ones that arrive on time.”

“Many candidates meet all the necessary requirements but no consensus has yet been reached,” he said.

During the unanimous session, Deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello, president of the Nominations Committee, was asked to activate the necessary mechanisms to continue with the exhaustive evaluation.

The first list of candidates was issued on March 16 by Parliament and includes Magaly Vázquez (Secretary General of the Andrés Bello Catholic University), Nelson Chitty La Roche; and the current Attorney General Larry Devoe.

The Ombudsman section included teachers such as Carlos Calatrava, UCAB and university professors such as Vladimir Alvarado from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV).
