This Thursday, December 5th, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, joyfully celebrated the recognition of the Casabe as a Historical, Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

“We congratulate all those who defend the identity, values and heritage of our culture (...) because there is an international campaign to steal our values, our identity,” he highlighted in his program “With Maduro Live Suddenly”.

He stated that “I got involved in the debate, if someone was offended, it wasn't my intention, what I want is to put the defense of Venezuelan identity at the center, because we cannot allow them to destroy our values, to steal what we are”.

In this context, he assured that the casabe, the arepa, the Tequeño, are all Venezuelan creations, “the whole origin of these things must be explained to girls and boys in schools.”

“They want to steal our arepa, the joropo, they want to steal everything from us, even the small one, no, it's a whole campaign to get involved and say: your Venezuelan culture is useless, that there is no Venezuelan nation and they are trying to create a parallel one,” he said.

He also highlighted that the Christmas Crib is also a Cultural Heritage of Venezuela, at this point the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, signed the respective declaration.

He also detailed part of the cultural activities that will be taking place in the country, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Battle of Ayacucho.
