Starting next Monday, July 21, the National Survey of Public Perception of Science and Technology 2025, carried out by the Ministry for Science and Technology through the National Observatory for Science, Technology and Innovation (Oncti), begins.
During his participation in the Al Aire program, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, the president of ONCTI, Dr. Roberto Betancourt, explained that this survey, which is carried out every two years in the country, seeks to know the Venezuelan population's appreciation of the activities carried out in the field of science and technology.
He explained that the survey, which will end on August 21 and will be available on the oncti.gob.ve website (https://oncti.gob.ve/), “all Venezuelans of legal age can participate. We are going to obtain a sample of about six thousand Venezuelan men and women who are the ones who provide the material for us to interpret the performance of science and technology in everyday life.”
In this regard, he referred to the results of the survey, conducted in 2023, which demonstrated a high interest in science and trust in the country's scientists.
In that instrument, 93.44% of Venezuelans said they were interested in scientific information and 60.87% trust the scientific community.
“This is the product of extraordinary work, but it also means that there is a correlation, it is a recognition of the work and it also means that we are permeating and that we are giving data that is compared with tangible reality,” Betancourt said.
During the interview, as reported by the MINCYT, Betancourt stated that these data help the Bolivarian Government to strengthen the national scientific agenda and address vulnerable areas.
“Where there are some vulnerabilities, we guide with the interpretation we make and that is available to everyone on our website,” he said.
The president of ONCTI called on all people over 18 years of age to participate in this survey, which will take place over 30 days.
In the area of innovation, Betancourt stressed that Venezuelans are aware that “innovation is not in the laboratory, but rather it is production and improvement of processes.”
He noted that the results of this survey will be released in the first quarter of 2026.
