The Nevado Mission and various animal protection organizations are still deployed in a comprehensive care operation for pets and wildlife affected by the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes recorded on Wednesday, June 24 in the central region and the state of La Guaira.
According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, multidisciplinary teams provide free veterinary medical assistance, shelter and food in the care centers of Nuevo Circo and San Bernardino, in Caracas, as well as in areas impacted by the collapse of structures.
Contingency work in the Chacao municipality reports the rescue of five pets, while animal brigades operating on the central coast transferred 15 felines rescued in the Los Corales sector to the headquarters of Nuevo Circo, in addition to receiving a group of between nine and 12 canines.
In addition, at the headquarters of Nuevo Circo, the medical staff, coordinated by assistants and specialists such as the veterinary Génesis Barrera, treat pathologies associated with debris injuries, infections and severe conditions of stress and behavioral disorientation resulting from the telluric event.
“We have also been receiving rescued animals from Guaire. We have also served as a refuge,” said Barrera, who indicated that thanks to donations from citizens, the Nevado Mission has been able to extend its support to individual protectionists and rescuers.
“We have tried to ease the burden, bringing him donations of concentrated food, of cooked food, and well, we are here helping people,” added the specialist.
On the other hand, the comprehensive veterinary centers on Avenida Ávila in San Bernardino and Nuevo Circo keep operating free ultrasound, X-ray, general consultation, deworming and vaccination services.
The institutional balance includes the care of wildlife, including a marmoset monkey and a parrot rescued after earthquakes, and the temporary shelter of animals whose caregivers died or are missing.
