The Government of Nicaragua announced its decision to leave the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an act of rejection of the prize awarded to the newspaper La Prensa, known for promoting violence, foreign interference and anti-values throughout its history.

According to information published on the teleSUR web portal, the Sandinista Government assured, through a statement, that this decision is irrevocable, adding that “out of Our National Dignity, We Withdraw from UNESCO.”

Nicaragua's notification is due to the fact that the newspaper La Prensa is known for promoting violence, foreign interference and anti-values throughout its history; which is why the statement specified that it is “shameful” that Unesco endorses with this recognition actions that “offend and attack the deepest values of Nicaraguan national identity and culture.”

“He also stated that this decision causes the international organization to lose objectivity and disqualify itself,” TeleSUR reported.
