From the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Peace and Justice Service Foundation (SERPAJ) issued a statement in support of the sovereignty of Venezuela, in the face of recent threats from the Government of the United States (USA), in which they warn about the risks posed by North American foreign policy for regional stability and respect for international law.

The document, signed by the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, denounced that the Donald Trump administration maintains an aggressive stance towards Venezuela, with explicit intentions of overthrowing the constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

“Lies are the mother of all violations, and Donald Trump uses it against peoples who oppose the politics and interests of the United States,” he said and indicated that this strategy is part of an imperial logic that considers Latin America as a subordinate territory.

SERPAJ specified that the military deployment in the Caribbean is an example of the war escalation promoted by Washington. “Trump resorts to the same worn-out methods and arguments, labeling Maduro a 'narco-terrorist'. It has deployed thousands of soldiers, warships and other resources to the Caribbean, openly threatening military intervention,” the document said.

In addition, he questioned the role of international organizations in the face of this situation. “The Venezuelan people observe the complacent silence of the UN (United Nations Organization), the OAS (Organization of American States) and numerous countries,” which shows a lack of political will to stop the interventionist actions of the United States, he said.
