Pharmaceutical market in Venezuela grew 20.66% from January to August 2025

Nationally produced laboratories accounted for 82.20% of market growth

The Venezuelan pharmaceutical market maintained a growth trend between January and August 2025, reporting an increase of 20.66% and 255 million units sold, compared to the same period in 2024.

The Pharmaceutical Lighthouse report prepared by the Business Intelligence unit of the LETI Group indicates that 31 million units were placed on the market in August alone, representing an increase of 18.81%.

For this period, there was an increase of 43.6 million units compared to the previous period, Radio Miraflores reports.

It also details that 11,924 active presentations have been reported so far this year and adds that drug consumption per person in Venezuela is approximately 11.5 units per year.

It also highlights that the average price in Latin America is $7.79 per unit of drugs, compared to Venezuela, where it stands at $4.21, 45.96% lower than the regional average, which facilitates access to the main therapies required by the population.

The balance sheet of the LETI Group also indicates that in the same period of 2025, domestic production laboratories accounted for 82.20% of market growth, equivalent to 35.9 million units.

These data confirm that domestic production is the country's main source of supply of medicines.

As for the generic drug segment, it has a growth trend with an increase of 31.61% in eight months, with a total of 125.4 million units. The cumulative increase far outpaced the expansion rate of the general market.

Meanwhile, these generic units represent 49.19% of total market consumption. In the month of August, the segment maintained its sustained recovery with 24.48%, placing 15 million units. This represents 2.9 million additional units in the same month last year.

Likewise, in the period from January to August, local generic production laboratories accounted for 87.22% of the units in the segment, representing 26.2 million units of total growth.
