Pitcher Jhoulys Chacín apologized and told why he tested positive for anti-doping (+LVBP)

Leones del Caracas pitcher Jhoulys Chacín apologized to public opinion for violating the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) Anti-Doping Program during the 2023-2024 season.

“Unfortunately, and to my surprise, a medication I was taking to control my weight was what caused the violation of the LVBP Anti-Doping Program,” the pitcher explained in a statement.

He recalled that it is no secret to anyone that in recent years he has been struggling to maintain the ideal weight to go out on the pitch, and since he was not working with any organization he used a medication that works as an appetite suppressant.

“This allowed me to lose weight and at the same time eliminate some back pain that I have also been suffering from in recent years due to being overweight. My biggest mistake was not knowing that this medication contained any banned substance... For that reason, I accept my mistake and also the consequences,” he added.

He also stressed that since he began his career in 2005, he has tried to play baseball in the right way and following all the rules, including those of anti-doping programs.

“Since I was a child and even more so since I signed up to professional baseball, I have fully complied with all the guidelines for making baseball a fair game and proof of this are the countless anti-doping tests I have carried out in my career, especially in the major leagues, in which my name was never involved in any violation of the rules,” he said.

After having admitted his fault to the LVBP and based on the arguments put forward in his communication, it was agreed to suspend 12 games for the next 2024-2025 campaign.

The Venezuelan pitcher reiterated his commitment as a professional to the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League and deeply regretted that his name is involved in this regrettable episode.
