In his prayer intention for the month of May 2026, Pope Leo XIV made an energetic call for global solidarity to combat the hunger crisis. The pontiff denounced food waste and demanded to move from a “logic of selfish consumption” to a “culture of solidarity”.

The Pope highlighted that 318 million people face levels of hunger crisis or worse situations, a figure driven by global instability, and he also deeply regretted that while millions suffer, large amounts of food are wasted.

He stressed the need for “concrete solidarity” actions, including support for food banks, awareness campaigns and the adoption of more sober and responsible lifestyles.

“The call seeks that “no one is excluded from the common table” and that bread be seen as a sign of communion and care, not as an object of consumption,” the supreme pontiff reiterated.
