The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, stated that the first Coffee Promotion and Promotion Act has as its central purpose to protect the sector and its producers.
During a meeting with coffee growers in the Araure Industrial Zone, Portuguese state, Rodríguez pointed out that the regulations respond to a historical demand in the sector and recalled that Venezuela has more than 136 coffee-producing municipalities. He indicated that, unlike countries such as Colombia, which have eleven laws dedicated to this activity, this is the first comprehensive legislation approved in the country to organize and protect the production chain.
“This is the first coffee promotion and promotion law to be approved in Venezuela. It's a law to take care of our coffee and, above all, to take care of you,” Rodríguez told the producers.
He explained that the law was designed to serve those who work the land, from planting and caring for seedlings to harvesting and gathering grain, and argued that the instrument will strengthen the identity of Venezuelan coffee through mechanisms such as certification and designation of origin.
The President of the Parliament called for adequate use of the tools provided for in the regulations to prevent the smuggling of Venezuelan coffee to other countries and to consolidate sustainable productive activity.
Rodríguez concluded that the approval of the law represents a response to the clamor of the coffee people and reiterated that its application will strengthen production and protect coffee farmers in the Portuguese state and throughout the country.
