On Monday, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, urged member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to convene a Special Conference for Caribbean Sovereignty and Peace, in the face of warmongering threats from the United States (USA) against the region.

At a press conference with national and international media, the head of state said that the first person to deliver the letter requesting the conference was to his Colombian counterpart and pro tempore president of the organization, Gustavo Petro, to begin an intense process of conversations and dialogues.

“We have to assert the declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a territory of peace. The letter is circulating and I know that it has already reached several countries,” he said.

He added that “Venezuela has peace, Latin America and the Caribbean wants peace and the people of the United States do not want war, so the stars are united for an initiative of this nature to take shape”. The Dignitary indicated that the Venezuelan Government “today has solidarity and voices of support in the world.”
