The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, this Tuesday alerted Latin America to what he described as an imperial threat to the stability of the region, when he denounced the deployment of U.S. military forces in the Caribbean Sea.

In a message posted on social networks, the president warned that “imperial avarice” jeopardizes the Peace Zone of Latin America and the Caribbean, declared in 2014 by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, by “arching its gunboats” against Venezuela.

Díaz-Canel described the Venezuelan nation, as reviewed by the Telesur portal, as “the brave nation of El Libertador (Simon Bolivar) and Hugo Chávez”, and highlighted President Nicolás Maduro as a follower of the Bolivarian ideology of regional integration.

Cuba thus maintains its rejection of the presence of the United States in waters of the Caribbean Sea, near the Venezuelan coast, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking. This includes the mobilization of more than four thousand marines, three destroyers (USS Gravely, USS Jason Dunham and USS Sampson), an attack submarine and other military equipment, which represents a direct threat to the sovereignty of the Bolivarian people.

This day's statement is in addition to that made on August 20, when the Cuban head of state called for denouncing these “new imperialist demonstrations of force” during the XIII Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP).

Díaz-Canel then emphasized the importance of protecting the region's achievements in the area of peace and disarmament, urging a coordinated response from Latin American and Caribbean countries.
