The president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
Delcy Rodríguez, announced this Thursday the expansion of the
Terepaima National Park, located in the mountainous region of the states of Lara and Portuguesa, a decision
that came after the appearance of a frontine bear.
“Weeks ago we received hopeful news: the
sighting of a frontine bear with its two young in the Biological Corridor
between the Terepaima and Yacambú national parks, in the mountains of Lara and
Portuguesa,” said the president in charge through her Telegram channel.
He stressed that this confirms the preservation of
emblematic species, such as the frontine bear, in Venezuelan forests.
“Based on this finding, I am pleased to report the
expansion of the Terepaima National Park, a decision that responds to the
historic clamor of environmental movements to protect the biodiversity of our Mother Earth,” he explained.
