The President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, announced this Friday, January 30, that the Bolivarian Government will promote a General Amnesty Law that covers the entire period of political violence from 1999 to date.

In this regard, he specified that “we have decided to promote a General Amnesty Law that covers the entire period of political violence from 1999 to the present”.

During the solemn opening session of Judicial Activities 2026 of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), he explained that the Presidential Commission for the Revolution of the Justice System in Venezuela and the Program for Democratic Coexistence and Peace will be responsible for presenting the bill to the National Assembly (AN).

He argued that this General Amnesty Law has its origins in the two laws ordered by Commander Hugo Chávez Frías and in one of the constitutional president Nicolás Maduro, on this issue of the forgiveness of crimes.

“Here is the spirit of Chávez and of Maduro,” he said.

He stressed that it is a law that serves to repair the wounds left by political confrontation since violence, from extremism, that serves to reinstate justice in our country and that serves to rescue coexistence among Venezuelans.”

He explained that those prosecuted, convicted of homicide, drug trafficking, corruption and serious human rights violations will be exempt.
