The President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, highlighted this Monday in Barbados the advances in energy, education and investment cooperation between the two countries, during a working day with Prime Minister Mia Mottley.
Rodríguez explained that Venezuela invited Barbados to participate in investment projects in oil and gas fields, as part of the effort to increase hydrocarbon production.
“We have invited Barbados to invest in our oil and gas fields, to join the effort to increase hydrocarbon production and ensure energy security for both countries,” he said.
He noted that this cooperation will guarantee energy supply and security for Barbados, and will open up a space for joint work in renewable energy, including the possibility of manufacturing solar panels on a bilateral basis to strengthen a diversified energy matrix.
The president in charge indicated that both governments agreed to review investment and double taxation agreements, with the objective of updating the instruments and taking advantage of the economic strengths and complementarities of each country.
In the educational field, Rodríguez reported that Prime Minister Mottley expressed her intention for the people of Barbados to incorporate Spanish as a second language. To this end, Venezuela will expand the capacities of the Venezuelan Institute for Cultural Cooperation, which already trains Barbadian students, and will incorporate technological platforms that allow Venezuelan teachers to teach Spanish classes on the island. The agreement includes a reciprocal component for Venezuelan officials and community spokespersons to learn English with teachers from Barbados.
“We are very happy with this visit and with the projects we are building for the benefit of our peoples,” said Rodríguez.
The president in charge also reported that she invited the Prime Minister of Barbados to visit Venezuela, with the purpose of advancing the bilateral agenda.
