The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated the 223rd anniversary of the birth of Josefa Camejo.
Through his account on the social network X, the head of state wrote: “It is 233 years since the birth of Josefa Camejo, the heroine of Independence rescued by the Bolivarian Revolution who recognizes the historical role of Venezuelan women in the decisive moments of the Fatherland.”
Camejo was born in 1791 in Curaiebo, Pueblo Nuevo, in the state of Falcón. From this town he moved to Caracas to continue his studies, when the Revolution broke out on April 19, 1810.
Then in 1821, at the head of 300 slaves working in their Paraguaná herd, he began a rebellion against the royalist forces of the Province of Coro, but they were defeated.
