The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, stated that “young people cannot allow themselves to be taken away from their right to happiness, joy, life and hope.” This was stated at the closing of the III Congress of the Bolivarian Student Organization (OBE) this Friday, May 17 in Caracas.

The head of state thanked the revolutionary youth for their love. “I had the same paths as you when Chamito had my turn in high schools to kick his ass in a tough era of repression and murder. When I was 13, 14, 15 years old, I saw friends and friends killed and tortured in the 70s and 80s but they never defeated us, we never let them defeat us and/or kill hope (...) We persevered until we built the 21st century Bolivarian Revolution with our beloved Commander Hugo Chávez Frías.”

President Maduro participated in the day in the company of the first female combatant and deputy of the National Assembly (AN), Cilia Flores; Mervin Maldonado, sectorial vice-president of Social and Territorial Socialism; Grecia Colmenares, Secretary General of Youth of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (JPSUV). Also taking part were Genesis Garvett, president of the Great Venezuela Youth Mission (GMVJ), Michelle Delgado, president of the Bolivarian Student Organization, and other spokespersons and student leaders.
