The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, paid tribute this Wednesday to Salvador Allende 52 years after his assassination during the coup that crushed the democratic and socialist process in Chile.

On his official Telegram channel, the head of state described the bombing of the Palacio de la Moneda as “criminal and cowardly”, a symbol of the horror that limited the freedom of a Homeland. “With a gun and a helmet, Allende made the decision to die for his people rather than betray their flags,” he said.

Maduro emphasized that Allende remains a beacon of dignity for Latin America and the Caribbean, embodying the ideal of a socialist, democratic and peaceful revolution. “Treason and fascism demonized his leadership to justify his overthrow, just as they are trying today with the Homeland of Bolivar,” he said.

The Venezuelan president emphasized that Allende's sacrifice was not in vain, since his spirit of struggle and rebellion continues to inspire the people as they move with dignity towards their destiny.

Allende lives in the Bolivarian Revolution. Its history, its message and its resistance are values that nourish our fight against imperialism,” he concluded.
