President Maduro received Dominican leader Miguel Mejía to strengthen ties for Caribbean peace

The President of
the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, received this Wednesday
at the Miraflores Palace, in Caracas, the Dominican leader Miguel Mejía,
known as Miguelón, to strengthen ties for peace in the Caribbean.
“We
welcomed Miguel Mejía, 'Miguelón', to the Miraflores Palace, who
brought us the blessing of Our Lady of Altagracia from the Dominican Republic,”
said the Head of State through his Telegram channel.
In the company of the
first lady, Cilia Flores, President Maduro shared with the distinguished
Dominican, who is visiting the Venezuelan capital and stressed that
“together, with the peoples of the Caribbean, we reaffirm our commitment to a peace
that is genuine and lasting.”
Mejía was born in
1955 in Villa Francisca, Santo Domingo, and from a young age he was linked to student and revolutionary
movements; he is a lawyer, was part of the Dominican Popular
Movement (MPD) and identified himself since his youth with Marxism-Leninism.
During the
Government of President Danilo Medina, he was minister for Regional
Integration Policies, through decree 246-16. In addition to being the secretary
of the United Left Movement (MIU), Mejía is an
international affairs advisor at the Dominican O&M University.
