The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reiterated this Friday that the country is a drug-free territory, but it has been a victim of violence driven by Colombia's oligarchies in the last 40 years.
During the act of activating the Community Militia Units in the nation's 5,336 communal circuits, the head of state pointed out that “the Colombian oligarchy built a State subject to drug trafficking, with institutions controlled by drug trafficking. And a thousand groups called self-defense, paramilitary groups emerged.”
In this regard, he stressed that "Venezuela has been a victim of violence resulting from the different forms of violence that have occurred in Colombia, as a result of this process.”
He highlighted that this situation has impacted the social life of all of South America, but especially that of Venezuela, where 6 million Colombians live, who have arrived at different times from difficult situations in the neighboring country.
