During a press conference for international media, the
President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, assured that Venezuela maintains
all channels of conversation, dialogue and diplomacy with all countries; referring
to the fact that they are “ill-fated” with the United States.
In that regard, he indicated that one of the channels of dialogue is
with “the one who says he is a US ambassador to Venezuela who lives in Bogotá”, John
McNamara; and the second with the president's special envoy for US
Special Missions, Richard Grenell.
He indicated that Venezuela spoke with McNamara when
the 10 terrorists were handed over in exchange for the 252 migrants kidnapped by El Salvador.
“That day we talked and when he spoke to me it melted (...) with him
we coordinated the basics,” he said.
“I treated him with dignity, with respect and he treated
me with special deference, with respect, with great respect, he treated me,
okay, I wish that was diplomacy and not gunboat diplomacy,”
he said, stressing that the United States is obliged to coordinate with the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
In addition, he pointed out that
gunboat diplomacy does not work with Venezuela. “Even if they put 10,000 missiles against
our heads, that doesn't work with us, Venezuelans are respected because we are
people of dignity, conscience and values, they respect us,” he said.
At the same time, he also mentioned the meeting he
held at the Miraflores Palace with Grenell, where he had the opportunity to talk and show
the swords of the Liberator Simon Bolivar.
“Those two channels are always there, now
the channels at this time (...) they are battered, because
gunboat diplomacy is an erratic, wrong option that they have imposed on President
Donald Trump,” he said and warned his counterpart that characters like Marco Rubio,
who is part of his cabinet, “want to stain their hands with blood, with South American, Caribbean and Venezuelan blood.”
He emphasized that Venezuela is willing to engage in dialogue within the framework of respect. “If only those channels we have would recover, if that were the case, always welcome, with the word respect everything is possible, with the threat and maximum pressure; maximum preparation and Rebellion because we are the world champions of anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist rebellion,” he said.
